Good question. If you forget to put your phone on vibrate and it rings in the library, pressing any button on the exterior of the phone will turn the sound off instantly without interrupting the incoming call. If you are coming into the library, stop in the lobby first to switch your phone to vibrate. Cell phones have a "settings" button. Look for it and find the sound setting. Turn the sound to vibrate only. You may also want to text your friends, your mother, your children, your spouse or anyone else that is likely to call that you are going to be in the library and that you cannot answer your phone while you are there. Tell them to call you later. Tell them that you cannot talk on a cell phone in the library because you will disturb other students and get hostile stares from those who are taking tests or studying.
If a call is important, you can always go out to the lobby and call them back. Don't answer it in the library and then walk out to the lobby talking all the way there. That will get you stares from everyone, including the librarians.
