Why Can't I See MyEconLab Content on the Library Computer?

We just had a student who could not see his MyEconLab. We’ve talked about the Compatibility View button and options before with eTextbooks. In order for the students to see the content in the majority of eTextbooks, we had to set the Compatibility View on the Library computers to their current settings. On the Internet Explorer Browser toolbar>Tools> Compatibility View Settings is set for “Display all websites in Compatibility View”.

This view does not seem to work with the MyEconLab or Google…and there may be others. Please let Bill and I know if other students are having trouble viewing online content.

Earlier in the semester you might remember that the students were having trouble getting into ePearson’s individual classes. The first students accessing them earlier in the day had no problems. As the day progressed students couldn’t get into their individual classes.

We discovered through the publisher’s chat feature, that a build-up of third party cookies could interfere with students accessing classes on a public computer if the cookies had built up.

So, if you’ve disabled the, “Compatibility View” option mentioned earlier and the content still doesn’t show, close the browser and open it again. This will automatically clear the 3rd party cookies on our library computers and might work.

How Do I Zip Files Into a Folder?

If a student wants to “zip” a file, here are the steps from Microsoft:

1. Right-click the file or folder,

2. Point to Send To,

3. Click Compressed (zipped) Folder

A new compressed folder is created. To rename it, right-click the folder, click Rename, and then type the new name.

How Do I Get on the Campus WiFi on My New Laptop?

If you are using the campus WiFi for the first time on a new laptop you need to check a few things if you are not getting connected.

1.) Check to make sure any WiFi buttons on your laptop are turned on. This button has a symbol that looks like this ((i)) and it usually has a blue glow.
2.) You must have current anti-virus software. The Wi-Fi blocks user without it.
3.) Check your Internet Explorer settings. [No. It can't be another browser. It won't work.]

On the browser toolbar click: Tools>Internet Options>Advanced tab> Scroll to Security settings and uncheck the settings that ask for certificates and the box in front of Use SSL 3.0.

Then restart your laptop and try clicking on Internet Explorer again.
